WHAT'S COOKIN' DOC?
Mario Picardo & André Wendland

10 February - 12 March 2022

The exhibition ‘What’s Cookin’ Doc?’ presents new works by Mario Picardo and André Wendland. Both artists draw inspiration from popular culture as well as cartoons and comic books and translate it into painting in different ways. The exhibition is a clash aswell as a blending of abstraction and figuration.

Chilean-French artist Mario Picardo (*1985) has studied Fine Art at the ‘Ecole nationale supérieure des Beaux Arts de Paris’ in Paris, France. Mario Picardo’s lively, gestural and multi-layered paintings are inspired by American abstract-expressionist painting and pop culture and reflect his great passion for movement, drawing and colour.

German artist André Wendland (*1995) currently studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Karlsruhe, Germany. Deeply inspired by cartoons, Andre Wendland humorously brings his own characters to life in highly imaginative compositions. Wendland takes great pleasure in presenting his work in a context other than the usual studio setting or on white walls, namely in the streets of the city.
