Damien Deroubaix born in 1972 in Lille.
Lives and works in Meisenthal, France.
Damien Deroubaix studied in Saint-Etienne and in Germany (Karlsruhe, 1998).
Since 2003, his work has been shown in the leading European institutions and has been presented in many solo shows, particularly in Switzerland and Germany. He has spent a good deal of time abroad, notably for residences at the Künstlerhaus Bethanien in Berlin (2005) and ISCP in New York (2008). In 2009, he is nominated at the Marcel Duchamp Prize. His works are in the largest national collections : the Musée d´Art Moderne, the Centre Pompidou, the MAMC Strasbourg, the FRAC Midi-Pyrénées, Limousin and Basse Normandie, the FNAC CNAP, the Musée du Dessin et de l’Estampe Originale in Gravelines, and international collections, among them those of the Museum of Modern Art, New York, the Mudam, Luxembourg, the Saarlandmuseum, Saarbrücken, the Museu Coleçao Berardo, Lisbon, the Albrecht-Dürer-Haus-Stiftung, Nuremberg, the Kunstmuseum, St. Gallen.
After 10 years in Berlin, he returned to France to prepare several major exhibitions. In 2014, he will present a large personal exhibition to celebrate the Maeght Foundation’s 50 years in association with Pablo Picasso. The Musée de l’Abbaye Sainte-Croix in Sables d´Olonne will devote a major retrospective to him in all its exhibition spaces.
Since 1999, Damien Deroubaix has organized many group exhibitions bringing together a number of artists (Altars of Madness, Casino, Luxembourg, 2013; Confort Moderne, Poitiers, 2013; State of the Union, Freies Museum, Berlin, 2011; Family Jewels, Villa Merckel, 2010, etc.), in addition to a large number of solo shows that he presented at the 9 bis gallery in Saint-Étienne, a venue he created in 1998 and whose curator he remained until its closing in 2010 (Claude Lévêque, Mark Dion, Anne-Marie Jugnet and Alain Clairet, Fabien Souche, among others).
